The Battle Over Serato
12th Edition: AI in the DJ Booth, new AI tools for DJs

The Rane Four designed by InMusic
We previously reported the Pioneer purchase of Serato, well pump the brakes on that because InMusic, the powerhouse behind brands like Denon DJ, Numark, and Rane, is pulling out all the stops to block the acquisition.
Why the Drama?
InMusic sees this buyout as a direct threat to their DJ operations. They're so concerned that they're considering legal action to halt the $100 million deal. InMusic collaborates closely with Serato, often years ahead of product releases. They're worried that their innovative ideas could leak to their competitors if the acquisition goes through. InMusic's owner, Jack O'Donnell, didn't mince words, calling the proposed buyout an "outrage" that could lead to higher prices and stifle innovation in the DJ industry.
The Future of DJ Software
InMusic has been working on its standalone platform, Engine DJ, which powers Denon DJ and Numark gear. If the acquisition goes through, they might have to double down on making Engine DJ a full-stack platform, similar to Pioneer DJ's Rekordbox.
Final Thoughts 🤔
Whether you're Team InMusic or Team Pioneer, this battle could reshape the DJ software landscape. It raises questions about competition, innovation, and what it means for DJs like us who rely on these platforms.

Who's side are you on here?Who are you rooting for? |
AI is making waves in the music industry, sparking debates about its impact on artists and even the future of human creativity. But here's the real deal: AI is more of a collaborator than a competitor. It's a tool that can amplify human creativity, not replace it.
The Human Touch
AI might be able to generate beats and even remix tracks, but it still needs the human element. Think of it as a super-advanced plugin for your digital audio workstation (DAW). It can help you explore new sonic landscapes, but you're still the one driving the creative process.
Collaboration is Key
Artists like Grimes are already experimenting with AI, inviting fans to use AI-generated versions of her voice in their own music. It's a new way to collaborate and find fresh sources of creativity. And let's be real, who wouldn't want to drop a track featuring AI-generated vocals from a big-name artist?
The Future is Now
We're at a pivotal moment, similar to when DAWs and Auto-Tune first hit the scene. AI is set to redefine the boundaries of music creation, offering new opportunities for artists to innovate and collaborate.
Final Spin
AI is not here to take over the DJ booth; it's here to enhance it. It's about pushing the boundaries of what's possible and taking your sets to the next level. So, keep your eyes and ears open, you don’t want to be left behind
